                                                     WHY WAS THIS WEBSITE CREATED?

I don't know about you, but I get a little sick and tired of religious groups and their leaders that attack TV shows and movies that they dislike. I think it casts a poor light on religious people, and I think it is bad for the entertainment industry as well.  For many years, I wondered why religious organizations did not concentrate their energy on supporting entertainment that they DID like, rather than knock that which they did not.

And I decided to do something about it. After having spent many years writing articles, giving sermons and speeches, and basically spending a lot of time defending those productions that I thought were positive (and by positive, I do NOT mean that blindly endorsed religious points of view.  Many of the best theatrical productions challenged religious attitudes and ideas), I decided to dedicate a website to it.  However, being both a playwright AND a rabbi, I felt that I had to restrict the website to Judaism, having no "street cred" to speak about portrayals of other religions.

While there are A LOT of stereotypes of Jews in popular media, (even if a Jew was born, grew up and lived all his/her life in Delaware, they still have Yiddish accent!) and the only event in Jewish history seems to be the Holocaust, positive portrayals of Jews and Judaism DO exist and seem to be on the uprise.

This page of the website will be used to discuss general trends in the portrayal of Jews and Judaism.  As always, your responses would be deeply appreciated.
